Colorectal cancer, or colon cancer, is a leading cause of cancer death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The most effective way to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer is to get screened for colorectal cancer routinely, beginning at age 45.

Here are 5 ways to reduce your risk for colorectal cancer from the CDC:

  1. Eat healthier
  2. Increase physical activity
  3. Maintain a healthy weight
  4. Limit alcohol consumption
  5. Avoid tobacco
