Diabetes Technology

If you or someone you know is living with diabetes, a wide range of technology is available to help manage it effectively. From continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps to insulin pens and blood glucose (blood sugar) meters, these tools have become essential in modern diabetes care.

They empower people to better understand and control their blood glucose levels, helping to reduce risks and potentially prevent or delay long-term complications.

AI Coaching Study Improves Type 2 Diabetes Outcomes

A recent study published in NEJM Catalyst, showed how a new lifestyle app can help manage type 2 diabetes using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The app uses data from a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and an activity tracker, along with artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI-ML) algorithms, laboratory data, and human telecoaching to prompt effective, real-time lifestyle modifications in a personalized, user-friendly way.

A randomized study of people with type 2 diabetes compared 50 individuals receiving usual care (UC) with 100 who used a phone app that personalized, real-time data to recommend food choices, physical activity, sleep, and relaxation practices. More than 70% of people with type 2 diabetes who used a new lifestyle app that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) reduced their hemoglobin A1c (HbA1C) to less than 6.5% and reduced or eliminated their glucose-lowering medications.
